Applying eyeliner is considered the most challenging makeup technique ever, especially for beginners. Let me just say – I understand you! But, I think that it’s not as hard as you think if you know a few rules and the right products to begin with. Here, I will share my favorite eyeliner products and simple rules you need to follow to master the eyeliner technique.
Let’s start with eyeliner products.
Which eyeliner is the best for beginners?
If you’re new to applying eyeliner, a pencil is a great way to start and gradually work your way up to gel liners. Pencil generally allows for the most control when using the product and is, therefore, a great way to become familiar with the practice of applying eyeliner. So you can start with pencil eyeliner and then gradually get to the gel ones. On the other hand, liquid liners are great for bold looks and sharp lines but allow less control when using the product and require more training to fully get the hang. That’s why my favorite eyeliners are gel eyeliners. For applying eyeliner, In my opinion, it is easier to draw lines with a brush and gel eyeliner instead of the liquid eyeliners because this is how you have more control. The brush is stronger, and it is harder to make mistakes with it. The liquid liners have long skinny brushes, and they bend easily, so you can’t have control over them, and you can make a lot of mistakes. Plus, they don’t dry fast, so it can really hard for beginners to use. You can try this combination. I think it will be easier for you to learn it. My personal favorite eyeliner brush is this one. You’re in total control with this super-fine, thin liner brush. No matter your liner formula of choice, this brush tackles everything from tight lines to straight-up lines. You can create from a really thin line using the brush’s tip to a thin line using the brush’s side. It’s amazing.
Once you find the perfect eyeliner product and brush for yourself, it’s time to practice. There are few IMPORTANT things you should know before you try and do your eyeliner.
- First, you need to pay attention to your hand placement while you are applying eyeliner. Your hand should be placed on your face, not hanging in the air. Why? Because that’s how you will have a steady arm and have more control. When your hand is stable, you can achieve straight lines, and you’ll make fewer mistakes. So keep that in mind.
- Second, the way you hold the brush is also essential. When we use big blending brushes and want soft looks, we hold the brush closer to the end of it. When we want more control and precise lines, we hold them closer to the bristles. Remember this one.
- Another important thing is that you should avoid stretching your eye when you do eyeliner. I know some videos of people doing the same, but it’s not the right way to do eyeliner, especially for beginners. Why? When you stretch your eye and draw a line, the line might look straight and precise, but it will become wrinkly and get an entirely another form when you release it. So make sure you practice without stretching your eye.
- Before you start practicing on your eyes, I suggest you start by drawing lines on your hand. This is a simple but amazing tip if you want to achieve straight, perfect lines.
- And the final, most important thing I want to tell you before the tutorial, PLEASE be aware that you can not learn in one try or one day. Practice makes it perfect. You will become better and better every day, trust me.
